Application decision guide

Acetal gear requests begin with load, geometry and material identity

Gears are a recognized POM application context, but the word “gear” does not select a grade or prove suitability. Use a technical RFQ for the drawing, duty cycle and acceptance requirements.

Direct answer

POM/acetal materials are used in gear applications, including examples published by material producers. A specific gear still requires engineering review of grade, geometry, loads, environment, life and mating conditions.

Questions the material name cannot answer

Document tooth geometry, torque/load, speed, duty cycle, temperature, moisture/chemical exposure, mating material, lubrication, noise, service life and failure consequence.

Stock versus finished gear

Sheet, plate or rod may be only the machining input. A finished gear requires a controlled drawing, inspection plan and confirmation of the selected material.

No generic suitability claim

Published application examples are context, not approval for a specific machine. Regulated or safety-critical uses require the buyer's engineering and compliance review.

Buyer questions

Is any acetal grade suitable for any gear?

No. Grade, geometry and operating conditions matter. Use a reviewed specification rather than a family-level assumption.

Can I request only a gear blank?

Yes. State the blank form and dimensions. If tooth geometry or other features are required, submit a drawing-led RFQ.
